Adriatic Treasures: Croatia to Venice

Mike and Judy Henderson
September 13-29, 2019

I'm going to leave the map at the start of each page so you can see where we are.

9/20/2019 (Friday) Today we go to the Krka National Park and then fly to Zagreb.  Krka is know for its waterfalls.  I took a lot of pictures at the park but will only put a few here.

Here's the location of the park in relation to Split.

Here's a map of the park.

There's a walkway through the park that takes us to most of the major sights.  Here we are starting our walk through the park.

The first waterfall we we came to.

A closer view of this waterfall.

Wendy and Rich having their picture taken by Judy.

A nice view of some water "steps".

A couple of ducks in the water.

Another waterfall.

Me at a small stream coming down a hill.

The last waterfall we saw before we left the park.  People were bathing in the water near the falls.

A closer look at this waterfall.

Judy and Susan at the park.

Laura, Al and Diane.

We took a group picture before we left the park

Then we boarded a boat to leave the park, heading for Skradin, a small town just outside the park

It was a nice day and most of us sat topside.

After a relaxing sail we arrived at Skradin and took the bus.

For lunch we headed to Stankovci to a pig farm (honestly) and a restaurant by the name of Roca.  When we arrived, we were able to view the hogs through glass windows.

The windows were too dirty on the inside for me to get any pictures of the pigs.

Then we headed to the house, and were met in the olive orchid by some of the actors who were going to put on an "opera" about local weddings. They harmonized while we were there.

We were offered two choices of grappa and our host offered a toast.

Then we moved to the terrace where the wedding "opera" was performed.  I've greatly condensed the story in order to limit the number of pictures.  The wedding party arrives, singing and waving the flag.

Some of the men of the wedding.  The groom is to the rear in this picture.

They bring out a woman who is not his bride to see if he recognizes his bride.  He refuses her.

Then they bring out his bride and he says, "Yes, that's her."

The wedding party dances in a circle, inviting others to join in.

The bride and groom.

The bride and groom dance in the center of the circle and then each dances with another (here, Wendy dances with the groom).

The groom's mother wishes her son well, here offering him a cup of wine.

Then the wedding party offers the couple gifts, here, clothing.

Then the groom's father blesses the couple.

The wedding party sings.  Here's the father and the flag bearer.

The groom's mother greets her new daughter-in-law.

To demonstrate that she's still healthy and able, and strong enough to still be in charge of the female aspects of running the household, the groom's mother jumps, three times, a fire that the wedding party has placed in the area.  [Picture credit to Gay.]

That essentially concluded the performance.  We then went down into the restaurant for lunch.

The restaurant kitty joined us.

When we left the restaurant we headed to the Split Airport

It's a very modern design.

Here's the plane that took us to Zagreb, a De Havilland Dash-8, Q400.

Soon, we left Split behind.

And arrived safely at the Zagreb Airport.

We checked into the Esplanade Zagreb Hotel and had dinner in the hotel restaurant with two other couples.  Then it was off to bed to get ready for another early day of sightseeing.

Our adventure continues here.
